TSUNAMI IN ASIA: THE Rotary Club in west Wiltshire has been putting together lifesaving boxes of supplies for those who survived the tsunami.
The shelter boxes, which cost £460 each, are multi-purpose plastic containers containing tents, sleeping bags, cooking pots, water purifiers and other essentials that could save lives.
The box is then reusable as a storage or water container and is designed for extended use in rigorous conditions.
The charity is also supplying two types of water filters, a large one designed to produce up to 4,000 litres a day, which can sustain a large village community, and a smaller hand-operated device, which is lighter and more portable.
In Westbury, the club is asking people to donate items to pack in the boxes it is putting together. The town council has agreed space at the Laverton hall can be used to collect the items throughout next week.
Adrian Cunningham, from Westbury Rotary Club, said: "We don't need clothes but we do need tools such as hammers and saws, as well as kitchen utensils, although nothing electrical."
Club members have also decided to turn the annual presidents ladies night on February 19 into a fundraising evening and is planning two events at Matravers School.
