16400/2TSUNAMI IN ASIA: Warminster residents have donated over £2,000 to the Red Cross tsunami appeal in two and a half days while collections in Trowbridge raised £8,000.

Warminster shop manager Jane Guttenburg was delighted with the £2,242.52 raised between Wednesday and Friday last week.

Collections for the tsunami appeal in Trowbridge have so far raised £8,000.

Red Cross fundraiser Mary Harrington said: "Asda, The Shires and the Civic Hall have allowed us to collect and so far we have raised over £8,000 with more to be counted.

"This disaster is so big that it will take years of support for the areas affected to return to normal, so please we need your support to ensure that this recovery can happen."

Elsewhere the volume of donations received by Oxfam stores means 10,000 more volunteers are needed nationwide.

Churches across north and west Wiltshire also held collections for the appeal on Sunday and Minster church in Warminster will continue its fundraising on Sunday.
