A LARGE amount of our rubbish is plastic and we too take a trip to the local plastic recycling bank at Staverton incidentally this was overflowing three weeks ago. It is not always convenient to get to a recycling depot!
I would also like to thank the local council for the utter confusion with regards to rubbish collection over the festive period. I and many others worked to the published rota for collections only to be caught out by Hills turning up a day earlier than most of us expected. This was not clear on the published rota in the local papers, the source of information for many of us.
The suspension of green bin collections not only shows a lack of commitment on the council's behalf to recycle but also added to the confusion. A drive around local estates over the last few days would have shown an array of green, grey bins and black boxes, all put out early to ensure they are collected and some have ended up spread by the recent high winds.
Other district councils have in the past got the collection firms to leave a flyer with collection dates for holiday periods in the top of the bin.
Can our district council try to inform the council tax-paying public a little better in future?
