A MAN has appeared in court charged with grievous bodily harm against his partner.

Garry Neilson, 37, of Saltash Road, Swindon was arrested after an alleged violent assault near his home on his partner Juliette Mitchell, leading to her being hospitalised in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Neilson will next appear at Swindon Crown Court on Friday, January 14.

Magistrates heard yesterday that Neilson was meant to be appearing in court on Tuesday for a separate actual bodily harm trial. This has now been put back until next Thursday.

He is currently being held on remand.

Earlier this week, the Adver reported that police were carrying out investigations in Saltash Road, but at the time residents did not know what they were arresting Neilson.

At about 7.30am on Tuesday officers arrived at the address and cordoned off parts of the surrounding area.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, said officers raided a house and escorted a man away.

He said: "I was woken up by lots of banging.

"There were about 30 officers and they took someone away with them along with a car and some clothes."

Swindon police are seeking witnesses to the assault in Saltash Road, at approximately 11.30pm on Monday.

A police spokeswoman said: " We are also keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a silver sports car in the area at the relevant time. "

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Ron Emery, Swindon CID on 528111 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
