Dawn James with baby Freya and dad BenBABY Anna Routley was hot favourite to be born on New Year's Day while Freya Day defied sweepstake bets to arrive just hours later.
But the girls, who were the first babies born in 2005 at Trowbridge hospital, both arrived a little late.
With mum Jane born on Christmas Day and dad David born on Halloween, there was always a good chance Anna would have a memorable birthday.
This proved the case when she appeared at 8am on Saturday, weighing in at 7lb 10oz.
Mrs Routley, 37, of Danvers Close, Westbury, said: "She was due on New Year's Eve so she was a few hours late.
"We were watching the fireworks from the back of our house perhaps that's what triggered the labour. It was a nice way to start the New Year."
Proud dad Mr Routley, 36, said: "We went to bed at about 12.30am and then at 1am in morning it all started with Anna."
Seven hours later Mrs Routley was a mum for
the second time and Amy, who is three today, had a new sister.
Mrs Routley is a full-time mum while her husband is a train driver.
Freya Day topped the scales at 9lb 4oz when she was born at 2.30pm, which was even bigger than her parents had expected.
Mum Dawn James, 20, of Copper Beeches, Hilperton, said: "We had a sweepstake at Virgin Mobile where we both work because everyone was saying I was massive. But I don't think anyone got close to Freya's weight.
"We had an inkling she would be fairly big so we had the right size clothes available.
"I was due to have a Christmas Day baby and she just decided she wanted to turn up on another big day I suppose.
"We had both our mothers there for the birth as well."
Ms James and her partner Ben Day, 21, met while at Clarendon School and Freya is their first child.
Mr Day is off work until January 25 to help look after his new daughter.
Ms Day added: "The staff at Trowbridge Hospital were superb."
