Wiltshire Wildlife Trust has welcomed the Government's announcement that it is to increase the legal protection for water voles.
The trust believes the new measures are necessary if efforts to stop the chubby creature from disappearing from Britain's rivers are to be successful.
Wiltshire is one of the country's few water vole success stories, where the round bodied, chestnut-furred creatures have returned to the waterways.
