75523-17There comes a time in every dog's life when he has to cut the apron strings and make his own way in the world.
But six-year-old Collie cross Sam is not ready for that yet.
North Wilts RSPCA, based in Swindon, is desperately trying to find a home for him and his mum, seven-year-old Border Collie Maddy.
RSPCA North Wiltshire Branch administrator, Anna Mills, said: "Maddy and Sam have been together all their lives.
"It would be a shame to have to split them up.
"It is always nice when animals have a companion like this.
"However it can be far more difficult re-homing animals in pairs as people often only want to take on one pet."
The mother and son pair was handed over to the RSPCA North Wiltshire Branch recently after their owner was unable to cope with looking after the two animals.
Maddy and Sam are looking for owners who are able to offer the dogs regular exercise and mental stimulation.
Mrs Mills said: "Maddy and Sam are a smashing pair and will make faithful companions for any owner."
The RSPCA North Wiltshire branch does not have its own animal centre, so its dogs are kept at private boarding kennels in Faringdon.
Anyone interested in offering a home to Sam and Maddy or any other of the dogs at the kennel should contact Charney Kennels on 01367 241063.
