Across south Wiltshire, people have been donating to collections, gathering vital supplies and taking part in a variety of events to help those who had their lives torn apart by the waves.
More than £3000 was raised at a concert held at Downton Baptist Church on Friday when an audience of 250 made it standing room only to enjoy a mixed programme of music, poetry, dance and choral work. The evening was organised in under a week by musician and composer Sarah Collins, who lives in the village, with the help of Caroline Bromilow and Jenny Sells.
With Gift Aid, the total amount raised on the night was £3,104 which will be donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee.
A concert at All Saints Church in Harnham raised a further £800 on Saturday night.
Salisbury MP Robert Key presented the evening which involved many local musicians and was organised by a group of Harnham volunteers led by Ann Leggett.
New Year's revellers at the Hogshead pub gave £698 to the appeal and lap dancers at Caf Rouge also donated last Thursday night's takings to the fund.
Shoppers at Tesco have raised thousands of pounds with a series of in-store collections which will support the aid effort of the British Red Cross.
Villagers in West Dean held a hastily arranged bring and buy sale on January 3 which raised £1490 in under three hours.
When other donations were added, a grand total of £1930 was sent to the appeal fund and the parish council is considering ways of providing long term support to the worst affected countries.
Children have also been getting involved with the fundraising efforts and pupils at Western Downlands school wrote special prayers to remember the victims.
Musicians Anna Hamilton and Marian Givens raised £693 for the appeal by busking in Salisbury's Old George Mall on Saturday. The money will be added to a £850 collection from a concert given by Wiltshire and Swindon youth orchestra last week.
Wilton Rotary Club has already sent £500 to buy two Aquaboxes which provide safe drinking water, and a collection in Wilton Shopping Village on Saturday will enable them to buy more.
Many pubs have also held collections and fundraising events and a sponsored head shave at the Cloisters further boosted the appeal fund.
At 8.30pm on Saturday, January 29 the Royal Oak is holding a race horse night and quiz.
Punters or race sponsors are invited to go along to the pub on Devizes Road and back a horse in advance.
With many more events planned over the coming weeks, including a collection for Oxfam on February 5, people in Salisbury say they will continue to do all they can in the aftermath of the disaster.
