DO your bit to help preserve one of the country's finest waterways. The Wilts and Berks Canal Trust is always looking for new members.
Membership is £10 a year, which includes subscription to the trusts' quarterly journal, Dragonfly.
The trust hopes one day to establish a continuous navigable waterway linking the Kennet and Avon Canal, near Melksham, the River Thames, near Abingdon and the Thames and Severn Canal, near Cricklade.
The canal was proposed in 1793 and opened in 1810.
Due to competition from railways, it was abandoned by an Act of Parliament in 1914.
