15094/1GAZETTE & HERALD: THE man organising a huge concert at the Olympiad to raise money for the Tsunami Appeal has revealed he is in talks with several big name stars to headline the event.
Iron the Cat frontman Richard Ellis, who is organising the gig, refused to comment further on the developments, but promised it would be a night to remember.
"I don't want to give any names at this stage as it could jeopardise the result," he said yesterday.
It is hoped celebrity names will be announced in the next week.
The February 5 show is part of a mammoth campaign to raise £25,000 for the appeal in just one weekend.
One thousand tickets, costing £20 each, have gone on sale this week and are available from the Olympiad on (01249) 444144.
As well as the concert, Mr Ellis and his band mates have organised an auction with prizes including a brand new convertible SAAB, a helicopter ride and part of a Formula One car signed by driver Ralf Schumacher. The auction will be held at a charity golf day being hosted at Bowood on February 7.
Chippenham Rotary Club's Tsunami Appeal is organising an evening of live comedy at the Neeld Hall on February 9.
To be compred by Wil Hodgson, the charity comedy night will star Russell Howard, Nick Page. Hils Barker and others.
Chippenham charity Kandu Arts has pledged its support to the concert, and hopes to get one of its celebrity patrons along on the night.
