GAZETTE & HERALD: WILTSHIRE Police are asking the public to be extra vigilant and not to delay in reporting any suspicious circumstances after a spate of burglaries in the Corsham area.
Although the advice is general it has arisen in respect of thefts and burglaries where thieves have simply walked into premises through insecure doors and stolen property left on show whilst people are at home.
An offence occurred between 5.30pm and 7pm on Thursday December 30 when a thief or thieves entered a house at Ditteridge, Box, near Corsham through the insecure front door.
A handbag, cash, and a Nokia mobile phone altogether worth £200 were taken from the hall.
A blue Peugeot 406, registration X894 KGC was seen in the area and may be connected but the registered address for this vehicle has proved to be false and the car and driver are still being sought.
Unfortunately the sighting of this vehicle was not reported until the next day.
PC John Barker at Corsham Police can be contacted on (01249) 712172.
