MIDFIELD Dynamo Lee Davidson believes his new partnership with Ben Kirk has kept both the young players in the first team.
Davidson and Kirk have been warming the bench for most of the season but have started the last five games together.
Davidson feels he has struck a successful relationship with Kirk that has justified their selection.
He said: "Ben and I have been doing well together and our styles of play complement each other.
"He is more attacking minded than me so he tends to roam up front while I stay back and hold the midfield."
The pair have been working together in training and building on their partnership.
It is this work in training that Davidson feels led to his first goal for Chippenham against Premier League strugglers Hemel Hempstead on Saturday.
"We have been working on our attacking play, as Ben goes up front I hold back and then arrive in the box late. Scott Walker played the ball back and I ran in the box to thump it in from just outside the box.
"Usually those shots fly over for me but thankfully it sailed into the net."
The playmaker did not expect to score and took some stick from the players for his improvised celebration.
"I have never planned a celebration and when I scored I did not know what to do. I decided to run around with one arm in the air and Rene Regis took the mick saying that I thought I was Alan Shearer.
"The ball took a small deflection and a few of the fans have joked it was an own goal and asked if I really claimed it.
"It was certainly my goal."
Davidson had three targets for the season and says he has fulfiled them all with just half of the year gone.
"I wanted to cement my place, get a man of the match award and to score a goal. I'm pleased I have done all three so early on in the season.
"I hope I can continue to feature in the side and maybe score a few more goals.
"It was great to get my first goal for the club and naturally I want to get more. But as long as the team are winning I don't care if I score."
