Disaster training and emergency response facilities improvement are shortlisted in a business plan competition.
The competition, by the University of the West of England, also features ideas for personal safety including devices to detect spiked drinks and inflammable gases.
A reverse hearing aid can be worn by a snorer's partner to reduce the volume of the snores and a cheap bio-fuel can be made from used cooking oil.
In total, 10 plans for businesses have been shortlisted out of 28. All shortlisted entrants will receive mentoring and financial and business advice to enable them to turn their brainwaves into marketable business plans and go to the May final.
