THE FUTURE of a Wootton Bassett beauty spot will be discussed at a meeting tonight.
The town council is organising the meeting to see if residents and the land owners can agree an acceptable proposal for the land next to Vowley View and Interface Business Park.
Residents protested last month when a six-foot spiked metal fence was put up on the site.
Representatives of Wainhomes, which owns the land, will attend the meeting to discuss their interests in the land.
Coun Audrey Wannell, chairman of the planning committee, said: "There will be no votes taken on this at the meeting it is just a presentation to local residents and councillors to see what's going on."
"We must look at the overall picture," said Coun Wannell. "It's no good making a quick grab for something we need to think of what we need for the next 50 to 60 years.
"We need to get the whole area sorted and find out where we can and cannot build on.
"Young people in Wootton Bassett will need somewhere to live so we have to accept that houses will have to be built somewhere."
The meeting starts at 7pm in the council offices in Station Road, Wootton Bassett.
"I want everybody to keep their cool at the meeting. People can ask questions if they want to but they must listen to Wainhomes and the developer must listen to us.
