MANAGER Mel Gingell blasted his side's below par performance as they crashed out of the FA Counties Youth Cup.

The boss was furious at full time as he thought his team gifted Suffolk the win with by not taking their chances.

He said: "We had numerous opportunities to score in both halves and should have been four or five up by the break.

"The result was an absolute joke, it is unbelievable that we lost the game, we completely outplayed them but could not get the ball in the back of the net.

"They are the poorest side we have played this year, we have beaten better sides than them this season. In a lot of football matches the best side do not always win, that was the case today."

Both Suffolk goals were scored because of goalkeeper errors and the manager was not happy with Jez Hare's performance.

"If he kept his composure we would have won the match, the first one went through his legs. I think the occasion got to him."

Before the game Gingell believed the team were good enough to go on and win the trophy. He said: "The dream is now over and we have to concentrate on the league games.

"It is a shame because we have put a good side together that were capable of winning this competition."

The match, which was played at Melksham's Conigre Stadium, got off to a quick start as Melksham went on the attack and several players were guilty of missing chances to give the home side the lead.

The first fell on eight minutes when a through ball from Bath City's Yan Klukowski found Wootton Bassett hitman Matt Bennett but his shot went narrowly over the cross bar.

Klukowski ruled the centre of the field and with Roy Keane like tackling he regained possession on many occasions and started most of Wiltshire's attacks.

He even come close himself on 30 minutes when a penetrating run left him on the edge of the box, he unleashed a good strike but the keeper managed to save it.

Suffolk struggled to get into the game, although they ventured forward on a few occasions they tried playing the ball down the left flank.

They came up against a brick wall as captain Josh Brigham, arguably Wiltshire's best player, produced one outstanding tackle after another.

The visitors only penetrated the home defence once in the first half and that opportunity resulted in a goal as the Wiltshire players switched off in the 12th minute.

Suffolk ran the ball down the right flank through midfielder Ryan Haynes. His cross ricocheted off a number of players before striker Rocky Holt's shot trickled between the legs of the confused Hare.

Wiltshire drew level ten minutes later but will consider themselves lucky that the ball ended up in the net.

Winger Terry Bohane unleashed a menacing cross, the Suffolk keeper, Andrew Reynolds, got himself in a right mess and fumbled the ball into the goal.

Gingell was upset that his players did not come into the break with a half time lead after strikers Matt Cooper and Bennett missed easy opportunities to take the lead.

Wiltshire faced the wind in the second period and failed to get out of their own half.

Suffolk grabbed the decisive goal on 56 minutes when a long ball from midfielder Haynes fell in the box.

Hare failed to gather the ball and the defence had two attempts to clear but it got as far as defender Richard Butler, who stabbed it in from ten yards out.

The home side picked their game up for the last 20 minutes but missed a whole host of clear cut chances to put the game into extra time.

Bennett was the worst culprit when he ran clear of the defence with ten minutes left. The goal was gaping but the Bassett striker thumped the ball right at keeper.

Gingell is trying to put the disappointment behind him and his players.

He said: "We have to move on and concentrate on the league.

"Our next game is against Berkshire and Buckinghamshire in February and we have to be right for that."
