GAZETTE & HERALD: CALNE'S community development officer Mark Wilkins says two recent cases show CCTV in Calne is a success.
Mr Wilkins said he wanted to reassure the public the system is working after volunteers manning the control centre helped police in the arrest of two vandals.
In the first incident a volunteer saw the local youth vandalising the bus shelter in The Pippin on December 10.
They filmed the incident before reporting it to the police who then charged the 17-year-old with criminal damage.
In the second incident another volunteer noticed a 17-year-old youth damaging a phone box in Phelps Parade on Friday. They also recorded evidence as they directed police officers to the youth's whereabouts before he was arrested.
The town centre CCTV system has been installed to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour with volunteers as well as professional security staff regularly monitoring the system.
Mr Wilkins, who manages the CCTV system said: "We are pleased that it is working and we are keen to give the reassurance that it is.
"The town council and its partners are working hard to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in the town and have invested a lot of resources into the CCTV scheme."
