AN army parachutist who suffered serious injuries in a road accident can no longer jump, Devizes Magistrates Court heard.

As a result, John Koulias is having to look at a new line of work in the Army, magistrates heard.

Koulias' car was written off in the accident on the A361 east of Seend Fork at 7.22am on August 24. No other vehicles were involved.

Koulias was not prosecuted for the accident but admitted driving without insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a driving licence.

Koulias, who at the time of the accident lived in Devizes but now lives in Weston-Super-Mare, told the court that he broke his collarbone and injured his back in the accident.

The court heard Koulias had passed his driving test but did not send off for his driving licence. He had four penalty points on his driving licence imposed in May 2002 for an offence of careless driving.

Koulias was fined a total of £210, given six penalty points on his licence and ordered to pay costs of £35.
