The first five minutes of play were very scrappy and a penalty for offside enabled Phil Robinson to open the home side's account with three points.

The advantage did not last long as Kris Arens replied with a penalty goal kicked into the wind.

The home side attacked again, with the aid of the wind, and although Malmesbury won their crucial line-outs offside infringements gave Robinson another penalty attempt, this time unsuccessful.

Malmesbury's backs were making the most of good ball from set scrums, however the Bradford defence stood firm for a large part of the first half.

Eventually, Steve Organ took a ball against the head and Huw Jones took it over the line from number eight to score.

Kris Arens kicked the conversion to make it 10-3 in Malmesbury's favour.

The visitors attacked again with Adrian Jacques taking the ball to the fore.

The Bradford pack defended well, but the ball was worked to the right hand side from where Kris Arens scored his side's second.

Turning round with a 12 point lead, Malmesbury went on the attack immediately in the second half to within five metres of the Bradford line.

This was stifled by a strong tackle by Germain Francis, the ball was knocked forward and the home side were awarded the scrum. Losing the ball against the head, Bradford were forced on the defensive again, this time to be split by Rob Gow, who scored on the left hand side.

The visitors continued to run charges at the Bradford Line. Simon Sharp was disappointed when called back 50 metres for a scrum after he had crossed the line.

Rushes by Huw Jones and Jim McManus were also repelled and the final 10 minutes were very well defended by the home side.
