This quarter-final of the Bristol Combination Cup was a highly competitive and physical game but it was the home side, Old Reds, who took the advantage in the first half but Chippenham go through to the semi-final due to scoring two tries to one.
The first score for Old Reds duly came via sloppy Chippenham play and they ran in to score under the posts, adding the conversion.
After this, Chippenham began to gain dominance in the forwards, but the backs were unable to convert these opportunities into points.
Towards the end of the first half, Chippenham found themselves camped inside the Old Reds 22. A quick ball fed out of ruck found the waiting Richard Taylor who headed for the line and open Chippenham's account. The conversion was missed giving Reds a 7-5 lead at half time
After the restart, some good defence by Old Reds produced a breakaway which drew Chippenham to commit a converted penalty.
Chippenhams forwards then regrouped and piled on the pressure which eventually paid dividends.
Niall Howard gathered the ball and drove over the line to score Chippenham's second try. Again the conversion was missed but the try brought the two teams level on points.
