As the game developed it was clear that Bassett's forwards were the dominant force and demonstrated their superiority in both scrum and line-out.

However, a number of refereeing decisions went against Bassett at crucial times in the fast paced game.

Andover scored the first converted try, quickly followed by another.

After a period of sustained pressure Bassett's Kenny Mathews broke through the Andover defence to score. The half-time deficit was 12-5.

The second half was played almost exclusively in Andover's half and Bassett were eventually rewarded through Phil Bardwell charging through to score. Andover replied with the winning try but Bassett kept the pressure up until the final whistle blew.
