JOHN Prescott's plans to revamp voter registration received a frosty reception from Westbury Town Council on Tuesday night.
The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister is asking local authorities for views on proposals to get more people to vote.
Westbury councillors were angry they had only been given until January 14 for a response and asked for more time.
Deputy mayor Mike Hawkins said: "They are trying to make changes to a system that is working perfectly well, like many systems of which they have made a pig's ear."
