WILTSHIRE police have issued a reminder that driving motorised scooters on roads and footpaths is against the law.
Police have issued the reminder after concerned parents contacted them to clear up the confusion surrounding their use.
The motors, which are sold under the name of Go-Peds, buzzboards or powerboards, are similar to traditional scooters but have an engine fixed on the back that can generate speeds of up to 25mph.
A police spokesman criticised retailers, saying in many cases they were not making parents aware of the laws surrounding their use and the potential dangers they pose to children who use them illegally.
He said: "Parents should also be aware that if their children crash into someone else on their scooter and injure them, they could find that the injured person sues them for damages, particularly if it occurs where the scooter should not have been used."
