TSUNAMI AID: RED Cross volunteers have been overwhelmed by the generosity of Wiltshire people eager to help with the relief effort in Asia.
The charity has been collecting cash in the county's streets, supermarkets and shopping centres and has so far raised about £50,000.
Fundraiser Mary Harrington said: "People are just being so generous, the response has been fantastic and the money is still coming in."
The charity began collecting at ASDA, Trowbridge, on New Year's Eve and shoppers have now donated nearly £7,000.
At the weekend Red Cross volunteers, aided by members of Trowbridge Lions Club, collected nearly £3,000 at Tesco in two days.
The store itself has also organised fundraising, giving thousands to the relief effort.
In other towns across west Wiltshire the money is still pouring in. In Warminster the Red Cross has collected about £8,000.
