16432/3FIREFIGHTER Jan Lisiecki has retired after 30 years service with Wiltshire Fire Brigade. The 50-year-old from Trowbridge, was awarded a certificate from Chief Fire Officer Andy Goves for his dedication to the service.
Mr Lisiecki, who during his brigade career spent time in New York with a crew later wiped out in the September 11 tragedy, said he would not miss all aspects of the job.
"It is so rewarding, there's nothing like it. The 30 years have gone by so quickly and I will miss a lot of things, but I won't miss the late nights."
Mr Lisiecki earned the chance to spend time with his American counterparts in 1992 when his team won the National Extrication Competition, which tested their ability in cutting crash victims free from vehicles.
The prize was to spend time with the elite Rescue One unit, which was wiped out in the Twin Towers attack.
Despite the sad memories he said he would love to return to the USA.
Mr Lisiecki said he had no firm plans for his retirement and he was keeping his options open.
In 2003 Mr Lisiecki refused to strike with his colleagues over pay. "I completely understand why they did it but I wanted to stay dedicated to the service," he said.
