30054A SCHOOL in Trowbridge has been lauded as one of the best in the country. St Augustine's Catholic College has been named by Ofsted on an honours list of high-achieving schools.

Headteacher Brendan Wall said: "We are delighted that the staff and students' achievements have been honoured in this way.

"It reflects all the hard work and dedication of the staff and students, regardless of their ability."

The school was visited by inspectors in 1996 and again in 2001, and was praised for its high standards in each case. The online hall of fame lists schools that have received Ofsted's top accolade and been praised as particularly successful in at least one of the chief inspector's reports over the past decade.

Chief inspector David Bell said: "All the schools, units and colleges on Ofsted's honours list should be proud of their achievement.

"Our new internet honours list stands as testament to the very high quality of education provided in our best schools, sometimes against considerable odds.

"I congratulate them for what they have achieved."

Ofsted has published the list after completing its second cycle of inspections at all secondary, primary, nursery and special schools across the country.

The rigorous inspections cover all aspects of school life, from the standard of teaching to how the pupils interact with each other and the policies institutions have in place for dealing with issues such as bullying.
