A REPORT on a proposed scheme for major improvements on road in Swindon has been published.
The Highways Agency has released details for the A419 at Commonhead.
The proposed scheme is for a flyover to separate local and through traffic at the roundabout.
Draft orders and an environmental statement for the road have been published.
This marks the start of the 11-week period for the public and other interest parties to submit their support, representations or objections.
On Friday, January 21, there will be an exhibition at Liden when members of the project team will present and explain proposals and answer questions.
Those most affected by the scheme will be sent copes of the details.
David Radway, project leader for the Highways Agency, said: "This is good news for our customers, particularly those who use the A419 trunk road around Swindon.
"We currently hope that, if all goes well, construction work could start in 2006, subject to funding.
"The period for representations closes on March 30, 2005. We will respond to all the comments we receive and seek to resolve any objections.
"Depending on the weight and substance of representations and objections, it may be necessary to hold a public inquiry before an independent inspector."
The public exhibition will be held at Liden Community Centre between 11am and 8pm.
In December 2002, the Government added the Commonhead scheme to the roads programme. Alfred McAlpine was appointed as contractor in July 2003.
The Highways Agency maintains and improves the network of trunk roads and motorways in England on behalf of the Secretary of State.
