Two defensive lapses right at the end of each half cost Wootton Bassett Town a place in the quarter-finals of the Wiltshire Senior Cup.
New caretaker boss Chris Jones taking the reins from Barry Giles saw his side beaten 2-0 at Devizes courtesy of a pair of Jon Scott strikes late in each period.
The first half brought little in the way of chances, Dave Macey going closest for Devizes midway through.
It looked as if the game was going into the break deadlocked until Scott popped up with a goal against the run of play, chipping his shot past Ian Gill after Simon Price's pass had deflected into the midfielder's path.
Both sides had opportunities early on in the second half.
On 55 minutes it looked as though Matty Bennett had grabbed an equaliser for the visitors but his shot from the edge of the area came back off the crossbar and then in the dying minutes, lack of communication between Gill and his defence led to Scott's second.
The Bassett rearguard left the ball for their keeper, but Gill slipped and Scott was on hand again to poke the ball into an open net.
Said Jones: "I'm disappointed in the manner we've conceded the goals. The first was a lack of concentration the second a lack of communication.
"That's because we are a very young side. We haven't got a lot of experience in the team and that's something we are trying to put right."
Highworth did make it through to the third round as expected, but Wiltshire League Bradford gave them a scare in the process and a 3-0 win flattered the hosts.
Ross Adams headed the favourites in front and Paul Cooper smashed in the second before the interval.
But Bradford had their chances early in the second period before conceding an own goal with 10 minutes left.
Highworth boss John Fisher was less than impressed by the display.
"We were awful absolutely dire," he said.
"The scoreline flattered us and if Bradford had taken their chances it could have been 3-3."
HIGHWORTH'S Gary Hill appears to have played his final game for the club. The defender is on the verge of signing for rivals Fairford.
