TWO Ferndale Junior School pupils raised more than £50 when they held a sponsored silence in aid of the tsunami appeal.
Eight-year-old Chloe Williams, of Woodhall Park, and Emma Whichello , aged nine, of Ferndale, raised £55.32 after keeping quiet all day and writing on white boards to communicate with their teacher.
Chloe's mum Vicky Williams said: "They were absolutely devastated when they saw the pictures on the television and they just wanted to do something to help.
"When they decided to do a sponsored silence I thought they would come back with a few pounds.
"We couldn't believe it when we counted it all up."
The schoolgirls collected the money this week after holding their tongues on Friday, January 7. The school also held a cake sale on Friday and is planning a non-school uniform day for February 11, to raise more money for the tsunami appeal.
Headteacher Robin Phoenix-Stone, said: "I think the pupils have been marvellous.
"The things we have done have all come from the pupils themselves, that's what has made it really smashing."
