DRIVERS could be facing delays on the M4 with lane closures on the westbound carriageway near Swindon.

The Highways Agency is carrying out repairs to the embankment of the motorway between junctions 15 and 16.

The project aims to make the embankment less steep, as well as installing new drainage and replacing old safety barriers.

The work will be carried out at three locations along the six-mile stretch and the work will mean the closure of the westbound hard shoulder and inside lane.

The eastbound carriageway will be unaffected.

Work is expected to be completed by March 24.

Mark Arberry, Highways Agency project manager, said: "Surveys have shown that the existing embankment needs stabilisation work to maintain its safety.

"Two lanes will remain open westbound, but there may be delays during peak travel times, and road users are asked to allow slightly longer for their journeys."
