Wroughton continued their fine run of good form in the under 14 division of the Cirencester & District Youth League with a 2-1 win over Malmesbury.
Wroughton started brightly and had their opponents on the back foot from the start.
After 10 minutes an incisive run down the left wing by Ollie Bunt led to a cross which a Malmesbury player deflected into his own net.
Honours were shared for another 15 minutes, until a splendid cross from the right-hand side of the field by Matt Lyons led to a lovely headed goal from Bunt keeping him top of the club's scoring charts.
In the second half, Malmesbury pressed forward in pursuit of a lifeline and looked more threatening.
Midway through the second period, Malmesbury were awarded a free-kick about 35 yards out.
It was hit with extreme force by Alex Andrews and just dipped in time to go under the bar.
Rather than press for an equaliser, Malmesbury were pushed back for the remainder of the game and Wroughton could have extended their lead but for some resolute defending.
Elsewhere in the division, Brunel Boys beat Tetbury 7-2 and are now one win away from winning the title.
The prolific Lee Dart grabbed a hat-trick to take his tally to 38 for the season.
Scott Barnes (2), Gavin Lloyd and Dan Carey were also on target.
Ashton Keynes were 3-0 winners at Lydiard with Harry Hill, Marcus Muller and Shane Bumphrey scoring.
Stratton won by the same score against Cricklade, thanks to goals from Cris Miles (2) and James Watson.
