Alan Hansen famously said 'you can't win anything with kids.'

But this couldn't have been further from the truth at Croft Sports Centre last week.

Football stars of the future took part in the first Tiny Tots, a football session for children aged three to four.

Fifteen children, including four girls, were taught basic co-ordination skills by members of Swindon Town's Community Office.

"This is the first project for children of this age," said Football in the Community officer Jon Holloway.

"We used to start at five, but at Tiny Tots we had someone who had only just turned three."

After requests from parents, and four experimental sessions at local nurseries, Tiny Tots was created and four sessions were booked.

There is already a waiting list, and more sessions are planned.

At the first Tiny Tots meeting on Wednesday, the children were given T-shirts, and practised basic ball skills.

The children moved around holding a small football before learning some simple football skills.

"We got the kids to practice rolling their foot across the top of the ball, and then they got to do some shooting," said Holloway.

Although there were one or two lively children, it was the parents that the community team were concerned with.

Holloway said, "Some of the parents wanted to join in.

"The children are easy. When they get bored you can just move onto the next task."

Over the next few weeks the Tiny Tots will use balls of different sizes and colours.

The sessions take place on Wednesday and Friday lunchtimes, and anyone interested in finding out more about the Tiny Tots scheme should call the Community Office on 01793 421303.

Holloway added: "It's all about having fun."
