Swindon Council is urging residents to reduce the amount of rubbish that is sent to landfill sites.
They say there is not enough space to deal with the amount of rubbish that is thrown away every year.
Seventy thousand tonnes worth is thrown away in Swindon every year enough to cover a football pitch with rubbish more than 100 metres high.
The council is advising residents on ways to reduce rubbish, which include not buying heavily packaged food, buying loose rather than pre-packaged food, stopping junk mail and faxes and growing your own vegetables.
It is encouraging people to recycle more of their waste, like paper, glass, cans and textiles.
