A SWINDON man is following in his sister's footsteps and joining the Army.
Seventeen-year-old Andrew Montier will join the Army Medical Corps at Swindon Army Careers Information Office this week.
He is following his sister, Helen Montier, who became a student nurse when she joined Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps in April last year.
The former Greendown student, of West Swindon, will train to become a combat medical technician.
Her role involves giving emergency treatment and evacuating casualties from the front line.
He will begin his 12-week basic military training in February in Winchester, where he will gain a number of vital soldiering skills such as map reading, weapon handling and survival skills as well as improving his physical fitness.
On completion of basic training, he will attend the Defence Medical Services Training Centre in Aldershot, to train for his chosen role and gain a City&Guild or an NVQ in advanced emergency clinical care.
