TSUNAMI APPEAL: A CHARITY yoga workshop has been organised to raise money for the tsunami appeal.
Two of Swindon's yoga schools, Achieve Success Yoga and the Integral Yoga Centre Swindon, have joined forces to hold the charity event, aimed at beginners.
The workshop, at the Ramleaze Hall, Shaw Village Centre, West Swindon, is from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, February 12.
To book a place on the course call 01793 700659 or 07887 535766.
SWINDON Soroptimists, a club for business and professional women, contributed more than £500 for the appeal. They raised the money at a buffet party organised by dentist Linda Swift at her South Marston home.
"It was arranged in a real hurry and I'm glad it did so well," said Mrs Swift.
A CIRENCESTER amateur dramatics group has pledged to donate all the profits from its next production to the appeal.
The Phoenix Revue Company will stage Robin Hood and his Merry Men at the Bingham Hall, Cirencester, from Thursday, January 20, until Saturday, January 22.
The play, which also stars students of the Cirencester Creative Dance Academy, starts at 7.30pm each night and there is a matinee performance on the Saturday at 2.30pm.
Tickets are £4.50 or £4 for concessions and are available at the Corn Hall, Cirencester Tourist Information Office. Call 01285 654180.
TWO CHISELDON Primary School pupils raised £330 when they held a bring and buy sale for victims of the tsunami disaster.
Amy Davidson and Charlotte Grace, both 10, organised the event.
Amy said: "We thought it wasn't fair that they didn't have anything so we spoke to our teacher and asked what we could do. Everyone in the school was part of it."
Local bands including the Ludwig Beatles, Locomotion, Almost Innocent and Grasshopper will play at The Flag pub in Bridge Street on Thursday. Landlady Lorna Sumbler, 48, is asking for revellers to make a £5 donation at the door.
The gig starts at 7.30pm.
GWR VEHICLE Hire, based in Britannia Business Park, has donated a 3.5 tonne lorry to help transport tsunami donations to the Wroughton Airfield.
The Luton truck has been loaned to the organisers of the appeal for as long as they need it. Mandy Pearce, senior sales manager at GWR, said: "It's been going all over Swindon collecting things. We wanted to do what we could to help and that was what they needed."
A TSUNAMI fundraiser will be held at the Cross Link Centre in Ermin Street on Saturday, January 26.
Local band WMD will be performing along with music from DJs Roy and Keith from Soul Night.
The gig will be held from 7.30 to 11.30pm, with a grand raffle and auction.
Tickets cost £10 with all proceeds going to the disaster fund.
They are available from the centre or from John Garbutt on 01793 496581.
