PARISH councillors at Pewsey are trying to get an old chapel in the village brought back into use.

The idea is to use the chapel in the village cemetery in Wilcot road as a community building.

Chairman Alex Carder told the parish council that a carol service had been held in the chapel at Christmas.

It was hoped that the service would be repeated in future years.

Coun Carder said that to use the building as a chapel of rest would require air conditioning and refrigeration which, he said, was beyond the budget of the council.

Coun Terry Eyles suggested setting up a working party to look into ways the chapel could be used more.

It was agreed to set up a working party and to invite local undertaker Richard Dewey for the benefit of his knowledge.

Coun Carder said: "What we are after is trying to use it more as a community building at that end of the village which people can use for ecumenical purposes."
