GOALKEEPER Chris Astley's season long loan spell at Almondsbury collapsed this week after he rejected a permanent move to the Bristol outfit.

Astley's loan deal included a 24 hour call back to Chippenham, but Almondsbury were not happy with this and wanted the policy cancelled.

They also asked the young shot stopper to sign for the club, as staying at Almondsbury was never in Astley's plans he decided to return to Chippenham.

"I want to play at the highest standard I can and only went to Almondsbury to get match practice," he said.

"They felt they could not keep me here if Steve White could call me back at any time. They wanted to keep me there on loan without the call back or to stay there on a permanent basis.

"But I play for Chippenham and feel I can still make it here."

Last November Astley made his debut for Chippenham in the defeats to Hitchin and Merthyr Tydfil.

He was disappointed with the performances and went on loan to get match practice.

He played five games for the Hellenic Premier League outfit, keeping two clean sheets, and feels the experience benefited him.

"I feel sharp again and had some good games for Almondsbury and improved in every game.

"When I next get my chance to play in goal for Chippenham I'm sure I can deliver a better performance.

"I now have to work hard in training and wait for my chance to come, I still have a future here."

Astley is keen to get back on the pitch and would be interested in going on loan to another club on a short term deal.

"Every footballer wants to play and I still need to get more match practice.

"For the rest of the season I would not mind playing at a Screwfix club or somewhere of a good standard, just to keep playing every Saturday."
