STEVE WHITE COLUMN: A FOOTBALLER feels all sorts of emotions when he puts the ball in the back of the net.

It comes to no surprise that players do lots of different celebrations and it has been said many times that the FA are a bit harsh on the players, especially when they take their shirts off.

I don't see any problem with a player taking his shirt off in jubilation. I only used to put my arm up when I scored a goal, I don't think I would have had the energy to pull my shirt over my head.

Sunday's game at Liverpool was a bit different when Wayne Rooney ran to the Kop end and put his hands behind his ears.

I'm all for celebrating goals but you have to be careful not to incite crowd trouble.

Even though there was not a great deal wrong with what he did, I think Rooney, being ex-Everton, knew what he was doing. Professionals should be responsible for their actions and he is lucky not to be charged by the FA.

I was never adventurous when it came to celebrations but I am envious of those boys who can do summersaults. Now that's entertainment for you.

What difference is there between a summersault and taking your shirt off? The player could injure himself or others when they do those outrageous back flips.

Officials should concentrate more on foul play and diving than goal celebrations. I know the FA are just trying to be sensible but these are side issues.

I can understand why players do these celebrations as it is a great feeling to score.

I want to congratulate my players as they maintained high standards this week. We did extremely well against Dunstable and I was pleased with the amount of chances we created.

Pundits predicted that we would get a win and we needed it if we want ed to consolidate our position at the top of the table.

It was even more pleasing on Tuesday night. I made six changes and fielded what some people might have described as a weaker team.

We controlled the game for 60 minutes and it goes to show that the changes we made did not weaken our team at all.

They passed and moved the ball well, and I was delighted with the overall performances.

We are now in the last 16 of the Southern League Cup, a competition we have done well in in the past.

We got through to the quarterfinals last year, and the semi-finals the year before when we were knocked out by Halesowen after winning three away ties.

The cup is there to be won and we are happy to be in the draw for the next round. We are not bothered who we face but it would be good to get a home tie or even a local away tie such as Paulton Rovers.

Looking ahead we have two testing games coming up in the league. First off we travel to Hednesford on Saturday. They did well to beat us at home although we squandered numerous chances to win the game.

I thought their keeper Ryan Young did fantastically well and won the game for them.

He has been linked to the England Non-League side and our strikers will have a job to get past him.

They beat Worcester in the FA Trophy at the weekend and spirits will be on a high after that game.

They are the FA Trophy holders and are extremely organised, have a good set up and will be difficult to beat. The Saturday after that we travel to Merthyr Tydfil, who we are battling against for top spot.

Both teams have been up the top for the majority of the season and it will be an extremely close game, like all the games involving two of the top sides.

John Rellish has done a magnificent job down at Merthyr and brought in the players he wanted.

If we can get four points out of those two games we put ourselves in a good shape.
