Speed cushions could be removed from the streets of Malmesbury, according to town councillor Ray Sanderson.
He met with the county council's traffic engineer Martin Rose, together with town councillor Judy Jones and county councillor John Thomson, early last week.
Coun Sanderson said Mr Rose was against the speed cushions, which were introduced about ten years ago to the town at a cost of £10,000.
They also discussed alternative traffic calming methods and ways of pedestrianising the town.
Coun Sanderson said: "I would like to see the speed cushions removed.
"They are noisy and we have learnt there are not used in most places anymore.
"There are now quieter and more user-friendly alternatives available. That is why I am chairing a committee to look at these alternatives."
Coun Thomson said one such alternative included having an area called a home zone.
This develops street design to make drivers feel it is normal to drive slowly and carefully.
He said the idea was already successful in many European countries.
