FURIOUS boss Nigel Tripp said he was left embarrassed by his players after Melksham sensationally crashed out of the Wiltshire Senior Cup to minnows Cricklade.
The Wiltshire League side play their football two divisions below the Screwfix Premier team but still managed to outplay their hosts for the entire 90 minutes.
Tripp did not even speak to his players after the match as he believed his side were capable of winning the cup.
He said: "We were rubbish, we did not compete or show the right attitude. Cricklade could have put ten past us."
The manager was even more upset as he did not field a weakened side. The only first team players missing were injured defenders Ryan Trowbridge and Lee Burns.
"Everyone let the club down and none of them can complain if I leave them out next week."
Cricklade boss Graham Jackson was delighted, and said: "Make no mistake, it was not a fluke result. The team deserved their victory and dominated the game for long spells."
Strikers Ian Ross and Ben Carter tormented the home defence for the first ten minutes and picked up a goal each.
Melksham started to come back into the game and attacked the underdogs, and after 35 minutes they halved the lead when midfielder Adam Gingell drove in from outside the penalty box.
On the stroke of half time Cricklade regained their two-goal cushion when Ross netted his second.
After an angry half-time team talk Melksham pulled one back when striker John O'Mera headed in David Blake's cross on the hour mark.
The hosts then went looking for the equaliser and pushed men forward. With ten minutes to go they left holes at the back which allowed Cricklade to catch Melksham on the break, resulting in Martin Swaddon netting the fourth.
And Carter grabbed his second just before the whistle to end a miserable day for Melksham and to send Cricklade into the quarterfinals.
Tripp said: "When John scored I felt we could still get something from the game. But they wanted it more than we did and were better than us on the day."
