15115/1TAKING part in one of the martial arts can give children in particular the self confidence to help them overcome bullying says Marlborough policewoman Emma Brown.
WPC Brown is a member of the Blue Triangle Martial Arts karate club that meets Thursday afternoons at Mildenhall Village Hall.
The club is for people of all ages from five to 85 and its instructor is karate black belt Lisa Burgess.
She said: "Some people think that traditional karate is an offensive art but it's not.
"It can be used for self defence but it's really about self confidence and being a member of a club that also helps you keep fit."
WPC Brown said she supported the belief that karate can and does help bullying victims by giving them the self esteem to resist their tormentors.
