Re Harry Bromley's letter on Monday, headlined "Harry should have seen TV." Although I do not disagree with Mr Bromley's remarks, I do remember as a schoolboy in 1945 wanting a British soldier's toy tin helmet, which my mother could not afford.
So my uncle Ralph, who was in the RAF, gave me a German helmet he had brought back.
My elder brothers and I had to be the Germans in our play games at Mannington Recreation ground, Rodbourne. I remember some boys made Nazi arm bands but nothing was ever said to us about dressing up to play.
Like Prince Harry we were innocently fooling around we all thought the world of our servicemen in the war.
