CHIPPENHAM U14 coach Kevin Ingram believes his side experienced an injustice after the Wiltshire Cup was awarded to Salisbury on Sunday.

Wiltshire Cup rules state that in the event of a draw the away side are named the victors. Ingram said his side were hard done by after battling to a well deserved draw.

He said: "The lads were extremely unlucky but we know clauses like these exist and have to accept them."

When the final ended in a draw both sides were left scratching their heads as no one knew who had won the cup.

Ingram received the disappointing phone call on Monday and feared the news would leave his team gutted.

"I have not spoken to the players yet but will be informing them soon."

Playing in heavy conditions after some prolonged over-night rain, Chippenham started the game well by taking the contest immediately to Salisbury from the kick-off, with some strong driving runs.

Salisbury's defence was strong enough to soak up the pressure and keep

Chippenham away from their line and prevent any score.

But the Chippenham forwards were winning plenty of ball which allowed their fly-half Will Richards to set the backs up to attack the Salisbury line.

After several such attacks, Chippenham was still unable to penetrate the

defence and Salisbury managed to secure some good possession themselves and they slowly began to apply the pressure on the home side.

But once again, the Chippenham tackling was dominant and the remainder of the half, saw neither side gaining any real advantage and a 0-0 scoreline at the half-time break was a fair reflection on play.

Midway through the second half, the Salisbury second row player out-sprinted the Chippenham defence to open the scoring and go over the line to score the first try of the match. With the conversion added, Salisbury had a 0-7 lead.

With time beginning to run out, the Chippenham backs managed to work the ball out to Luke Flower. He out-paced the defence and he too, touched down under the posts. Tom Davies added the conversion and brought the scores level to set up a thrilling conclusion

Chippenham's Richard Thatcher came close to scoring the clincher but his foot just went into touch on his way to the try-line.

Walcot U13 5 Chippenham U13 12

Chippenham's Under 13 squad travelled the short distance away at Lansdowne to play Walcot and both teams were well matched for this encounter.

Both of the visitors' tries were breakaway scores in the first half, first from Neil Jenkins and the second by Matt Burrows. Jake Emery added one conversion to open up a 12 point lead.

Walcot managed to pull back a consolidation try in the second half after making a determined effort to score but Chippenham continued to improve after a good performance recently against Sherborne.

The only down side for Chippenham was an injury to their prop James Steer but he should return to action soon.

Cleve minis v Chippenham minis

Twenty three members of Chippenham's U11 squad travelled to Cleve on Sunday

Coaches Ant Allies and Brian Gorman were well pleased with the players performance and commitment and Alister Moore was awarded player of the week for his outstanding tackling.

In match one Cleve 5 defeated Chippenham 0. Match two-was a nil-all draw and in the third, Cleve again won 5-0

Only one squad of Chippenham U9s travelled to Cleve on Sunday and in the first game, through some powerful forward running from the likes of Josh L, Alex C and Charlie K, Chippenham pulled off a well deserved 5-10 victory.

Charles C and Robert P put in strong tackles during the second game but fresh legs in the Cleve squad saw a 10-0 victory for the home side.

l Chippenham's A team for the U8 age group overcame Cleve by four tries to two with James Gaunt and Owen Waters claiming two tries apiece.

Chippenham's B team were unlucky to lose to the same Cleve team. The resulting score, four tries to three. Henry scored once with Charlie claiming two.
