Wiltshire County Council's proposals to spend £50,000 on providing lighting along the Kennet and Avon Canal towpath in Devizes would be a wicked waste of public money. The canal towpath is used by a small percentage of the population in daylight hours, what makes the council think more would want to use it after dark?
I appreciate that this would be a good thoroughfare for the residents of the new estates planned but, even when those estates are full and assuming they all took an evening stroll along that stretch of the towpath, it would still be a small percentage of the total population.
Surely if £50,000 has to be spent it would be better to put it towards the running of the hospital?
Wiltshire County Council could pass the £50,000 back to the finance department with a suggestion that they take it off next year's council tax that would benefit all of us.
