RESIDENTS on the Oldfield Park estate in Westbury are calling for a 20mph speed limit to be extended along its boundary.
The existing signs do not cover all of Oldfield Road, which means drivers coming from Leigh Park have to slow from 30mph part of the way down.
Alf Storey, of Penwood Close, has written to Westbury Town Council with a map suggesting where the new signs should be.
He said: "I would like to get the council to shift the sign up past the built up area. The sign should start just before the housing at the playing fields."
On Monday night members voted to ask Wiltshire Council to look into the proposal and said they would consider funding a road traffic order to allow the change.
Mayor Horace Prickett said: "If the whole estate is brought up to the same level, we've got a much better chance of getting something done."
County councillor for Westbury, Chris Newbury, said extra traffic calming measures would be needed before the limit was extended as police would not monitor a 20mph zone.
Members also gave their backing to Wiltshire County Council's consultation document on the annual review of speed limits.
Deputy mayor Mike Hawkins said: "It's quite nice that we've got more than five days to respond. It a sensible proposal."
