FIVE-GOAL Tim Jefferies crowned a superlative all-round Rudloe performance to send last season's Knockout Cup finalists North Bradley Saints crashing to a sensational 9-1 second round exit.

After their October goal-less league thriller no one could have predicted a scoreline that left the league let alone outplayed Saints shell-shocked.

Not even striker Chris Fardell's emergency role as goalkeeper could offer Saints any consolation, as a recognised stopper would have been hard-pressed to prevent such an avalanche.

Fardell had already made two good saves as Rudloe laid siege to Saints' goal from the first whistle and were rewarded when Jason Walsh's third-minute shot left Fardell rooted to his line.

Jefferies' whirlwind hat-trick, between the 20th and 26th minutes started with a 25 yard free kick which bounced wickedly in front of Fardell who was then at fault when allowing Jefferies' shot to roll under his body.

There was, however, no chance of Fardell stopping a Jefferies' pile driver to complete his hat-trick.

Simon Gray added a fifth from Walsh's cross on the half hour and it was 6-0 in the 37th minute when Jefferies notched an opportunist goal.

And Saints' first half nightmare was completed when Brent Murden shot wide from a penalty after Andy Sibbick had handled.

Gray, who rounded Fardell in the 50th minute, a spectacular Jefferies strike in the 62nd minute and Tom Smith's spot kick after he was brought down, finalised the destruction, leaving Saints, who hit the woodwork and had a few chances, with only substitute Steve Munday's late consolation.

Rudloe's second string made it a cup double and now face holders Broughton Gifford tomorrow after Luke Wolf's 87th minute goal clinched a 2-1 first round replay success over Bradford Town Reserves, who had taken a second half lead through Jason Povey (penalty) before Wolf levelled.

The end of one cup road came for giantkillers Trowbridge Wanderers, although it could have been more glory had Steve Coombes not missed a first minute penalty at Division Two high-flyers CS Filos.

A Jamie Moth header wiped out Jimmy White's opener but the Division Three outfit finally bowed out 5-3. A Jason Wilcox header at the near post restored Filos' lead before Dan Bliss, White and ex-Rudloe striker Rob Turner struck further home goals. Moth and Dominic Gorton capitalised on defensive errors by goalkeeper Dylan MacDonald and Paul Bryant for Wanderers.

Last season's semi-finalists Bradford United are through to the last eight, two goals in each half, from John Williams, Simon Morris (2) and John Baker earning a comfortable 4-0 passage over Division One rivals Frome Town Sports, who missed injured strikers Frank Alexander and Damien Edwards.

A hat-trick from Paul Smith and a single from Dan Cox allowed Bratton to make progress by reversing their 4-3 league defeat at Division Two rivals Broughton Gifford Reserves. But Bratton needed extra-time to do so after Dave Jenkins and Stuart Irons (penalty) had twice wiped out Smith strikes. Smith and Cox put Bratton 4-2 up before Duncan Knight replied.

Westbury United A start tomorrow's Division Two Cup second leg as favourites to become the first finalists of the season. Jamie Hibbs, Stuart Barber and Tim Somerfield carved out a three-goal lead first leg lead before a Paul Farion penalty gave The Lamb Inn some hope of retrieving the deficit.

In the league the end of Heytesbury's 52-year-old top flight tenure came closer after a 7-1 hammering by fellow strugglers Freshford United.

Steve Richardson's side never recovered from two early goals and found themselves five down at the break, through Paul Mockridge, Neil Birleson, Tony Brett, Dave Birleson and Stuart Arnold.

A last kick effort from Darren MacDuff was Heytesbury's only consolation after Mockridge and Neil Birleson had struck again.

A goal-less affair in an immediate return against Warminster Town Reserves was sufficient for Seend United to share joint second place at the top in a match in which both sides missed penalties.

Paul Colborne, in goal for the first time this season for Town, saved Mark Newman's spot kick before Andy Parmenter blazed his penalty over the bar.

Seend's second string are a point clear in second place in Division Two after a 2-2 stalemate at Hilperton United, where manager Nigel Hall, with a free kick, and Rob O'Harrow wiped out John Harris' home opener.

Harris struck again to earn Hilperton their third successive league and cup draw.

Steeple Ashton, who face the rest of the season without 15-goal Marc Sheppard through injury, are still without a win but again never looked basement material against leaders The Deverills, whose 2-1 victory was the fourth time this season that Neil Taylor's outfit have lost by the odd goal. Scott Gallazi and Julian Uphill gave Deverills a two-goal lead before Lee Hayward replied.

In Division Three Lavington are posing a real threat to leaders St Andrews and Rudloe Reserves. The free-scoring villagers notched their fifth straight win in a 5-1 home success over Apetito. Four first half goals from Miles Hickton, to take his tally to 28, and one from Robin Gorham sank the Trowbridge works side who replied through Alan House.

Lavington keeper Phil Simmons missed a late penalty.

Frome Town Sports A recorded their sixth win in eight games thanks to a double from Anthony Burtenshaw and one from Richard Stradling in the 3-0 home win over Hilperton United Reserves.

For the first time since opening in September Chippenham's Stanley Park pitches were waterlogged, causing the postponement of both Castle Combe matches.
