30110/1A NURSERY school has got a new roof thanks to a builder's generosity. Darren Mann, who owns DRM Fabrications, spotted an article in the Wiltshire Times in June appealing for help to raise money for a new roof at Westwood Nursery.
With employees Mark Lighowler and Matthew Ciriaco, Mr Mann carried out the building work for free, made no profit on the materials, and saved the nursery £4,000.
Mr Mann, 38, of Warminster, who has a 16-year-old daughter, said: "I didn't like the thought of them having a leak in the roof and the children getting cold as winter approached."
After he offered to do the work he suffered a £52,000 setback when a company in Westbury went bankrupt and could not pay him for work he was doing.
He said: "It was already in my heart strings and I had committed myself so I thought I would do it regardless."
The school thanked Mr Mann on Wednesday, when pupils held up a banner in his honour.
Nursery manager Kate Eastwood said: "We are really grateful. We got a lovely present."
