IT IS sad to read that, yet again, large numbers of disabled people living in Wiltshire are being deprived of essential services through what appears to be incompetence on the part of those responsible for the administration of adult and community services.
In addition, the carers, both family members and staff, are going to be adversely affected.
The closure process of Waverley House left a great deal to be desired, not least because of the lack of proper planning and consultation at the outset and subsequently. Even now the process is not complete and there are outstanding issues to be resolved.
How is it that the task of ensuring that proper consultation takes place is so difficult? How is it that there is a sudden budget shortfall of some £450,000? One cannot but wonder just who is exercising proper management and financial control, if indeed anyone is.
Perhaps the answer to the budget shortfall may lie in reviewing the number of higher paid managers who need to be employed, rather than axing frontline staff?
