WORK will start on the multi-million pound redevelopment of the former Tesco site in Trowbridge on Monday.
Developer Thiyan Investments will start demolition at St Stephen's Place, in the first development to be brought forward under the Vision for Trowbridge framework.
Geoff Button, from Thiyan Investments, said: "We have worked closely with the district council to bring forward a scheme that meets the needs of the local population while fitting within the design principles set down by the vision for Trowbridge.
"Now we have started on site, we hope to confirm our tenants for the units very soon."
The £25m redevelopment will see the now derelict former Tesco building replaced with a complex, including shops, a bar, restaurant, gym and parking spaces.
The developer will also refurbish the Castle Place shopping precinct, improving lighting, CCTV, and disabled access.
A total of 20 car parking spaces will temporarily be lost at the St Stephen's place car park while the work is being carried out.
The Vision for Trowbridge established principles, adopted as supplementary planning guidance by West Wiltshire District Council, to provide an urban design framework within the town.
