BURGLARS targeted a 90-year-old deaf and partially sighted grandad. The man had been out of hospital for just a day and was alone at home in Rock Road, Trowbridge, when a man and woman got into his home.

He asked them to leave and the pair did so. Nothing was stolen.

His daughter said: "It didn't sink in for a couple of days what could have happened to him, but then he was upset. What upset him was what could have happened if they had refused to leave.

"Elderly people are trusting. He is now wary of opening his door to anyone."

The man opened his front door because, after spending four months in hospital being treated for jaundice, he was expecting a visit from the district nurse.

When he opened the door he realised the person was not his nurse but she said she wanted to talk to him and would like a glass of water so he invited her in.

From the kitchen the pensioner noticed another person enter, but thought this was the nurse.

He opened the door from his lounge to see an unknown man standing at the bottom of the stairs.

PC Jo Bradford said: "It is suspected these people entered the house intending to steal."

The woman is described as white, 5ft 10in and aged 18-20. She is well built with big hips, fair hair tied up and with a local accent.

She was wearing blue jeans and a black zip top with 'Sherbourne' written on the front in white lettering. The man is described as 5ft 8ins, white, slim, with auburn hair and he was wearing a grey mac down to the ankles and a dark, flat hat.
