16456/2A SPORTING treasure has been found in Trowbridge Cricket Club hidden behind a picture.
A rare lithograph dating from 1880 and showing WG Grace among other Victorian cricketers has been found in the Timbrell Street clubhouse.
Christine Scrine, chairman of the club's restoration group, said it was an important find, capping four years of hard work to raise money to restore the pavilion.
"This has got to be one of the most exciting finds in the club's history. WG Grace is a legend in cricket," she said.
"He was the most famous Victorian cricketer, who played the first game at the Trowbridge ground to commemorate the finishing of the Victorian pavilion.
"Because of the connections of WG Grace to the town the discovery is all the more important to us and I consider it as one of our most treasured pieces of memorabilia.
"I want to reframe this lithograph and put it on display."
Although important to the club the lithograph is not considered valuable in monetary terms.
Cricket researcher Bill Frindall has studied the lithograph and believes it shows a Gentlemen v Players match at Lord's in July 1880.
